Seasoned Salt
I have a skillet, some steak, seasoned salt, and lemon pepper... What do I do?
I have no money, but would like to make a good dinner for my fiancee. I have baking sheets and a skillet, that's it... I have some little steaks, and the above listed seasonings, well, I also have some veggies (canned, I'm on a strict budget!!!). I do know how to cook, but I've never made steak in a pan before... Please help!!!
Pre-heat the skillet on medium stovetop setting with a little Cooking Oil. When a drop of water sizzles upon being dripped into the skillet, it's ready. Quickly place your steak in the skillet, being careful not to splash hot oil on yourself. Let it begin to sear, stirring it around a bit with a wooden spoon or a pancake-turner or spatula now and then. Let it sear three minutes and then turn it over. Let that side sear the same amount of time. If anything sticks to the skillet, don't worry - as Emeril says, that's yum-yums. Turn the heat down to medium-low and let the steak continue to cook. Add two tablespoonsful of A-1 sauce to the pan and sprinkle a little salt on and toss in a good handful of thinly sliced onion.
Let your meat cook on each side about eight minutes more. Meantime, prepare some mashed potatoes with a touch of garlic and butter and steam some fresh broccoli.
As your meat nears doneness, toss in a cupful of small whole mushrooms - straw mushrooms work real well. Serve the meat with the onions and mushrooms on top and the potatoes and broccoli on the side. If he's a nitwit who claims he does not like broccoli, serve him some fresh steamed greenbeans or asparagus instead.
You can scrape the frying pan when the meat is done to loosen up the "yum-yums" I mentioned, and then stir a tablespoonful of flour into a half cupful of cold water. Pour that into the skillet with the scraped-loose stuff and cook that on medium heat until it thickens into a nice gravy. Pour that into a cup - a measuring cup with a pour spout works just fine - and serve it alongside so he can pour it on his potatoes if he likes (hey, don't embarrass yourself - ask ahead of time if he likes gravy and veggies). You could even go real whole-hog and serve garlic toast.
Now - if the dude turns his nose up at the above - you just come see me, sugar, and I'll introduce you to my tall, handsome and fully-employed son!
By the way - fresh veggies really cost very little more than canned, and they surely do taste a heck of a lot better. You wanna impress this guy, don't skimp on the ingredients! You can find other ways to economize...cause it is still true - the way to a man's heart is through his stomach.
