How much tomato juice should I give my dogs for urine spots?
I have heard feeding your female dog tomato juice with their food with eliminate the yellow burn spots in the yard. I had some expired V8 that I fed them, and didn't notice any new burns until we ran out last week. I checked with my vet about the supplements they make to give your dog, but I've heard those can compromise your dog's health. My own vet said no way. (Though they've never heard of tomato juice.) I have a 35 lb. dog and a 65 lb. dog. For anyone using tomato juice, how much do you recommend feeding each one to find the perfect balance between keeping the grass green and not overusing the juice- ie spending more money on juice than needed? Thanks!
It's the Nitrogen in dog urine that burns grass, NOT the acidity of the urine. Basically dog pee is over-fertilizing the lawn.
Tomato juice only works because all the salt makes your dog want to drink more water, which dilutes the nitrogen in the urine. This also increases the risk of your dog developing kidney problems in the long run.
Either train your dog to urinate in a designated area or chase after your dog with a garden hose and dilute the pee.
ADD: seriously people, look it up. Dog pee has a pH of 6.0-8.0(slightly acidic to slightly alkaline), which isn't enough to burn grass. Nitrogen in the urine is the TRUE culprit.
