Can anyone provide me with details why Kuan Yin Devotees avoid beef since we are not Hindu we are taoist ?
Buddhist can eat every lind of food only Hindu can't eat beef why should we follow
I asked a taoist friend - and he said that in mythology, the goddess Kuan Yin gave part of her flesh to a cow to save it from death. So people who follow Kuan Yin respect the cow, as a sign they respect the flesh of Kuan Yin.
The Buddhist Kuan Yin and the taoist goddess differ - because in Chinese Buddhism Kuan Yin is the equivalent of Chenrezig in Tibetan Buddhism and Avalokiteshvara of Hinayana Buddhism of Nepal, Thailand and Burma. The Dalai Lama is said to be the reincarnation of Chenrezig but he eats beef, just for you to see the difference between the Taoist goddess and the Buddhist one.

Goddess of Mercy (Ti Kuan Yin) Oolong - 1 Ounce
USD 3.10 The Fujian Province of China is the birthplace for the semi-oxidized Oolong teas. Oolong teas, aka wulong or black dragon, are made from large leaves that are produced in the late Spring. Unlike other types of tea that contain the top leaves and the buds of the bush, oolong teas are large well formed leaves that will sometimes also contain the stem of the bush. Oolongs differ from green, black and white teas by the method of processing and are the most labor intensive tea to produce. Each type of Oolong varies in the percentage of oxidation and the method in which it is processed (some are twisted, tippy leaves, some are cut, some are rolled into small balls). Goddess of Mercy (Iron Goddess, Guan Yin, Ti Kuan Yin) is a superior grade of China Oolong tea from Anxi County in the southern Fujian province.
