is there any thing i can use to light charcoal besides lighter fluid
Take a large coffee can and punch a bunch of holes (about 50 or so) all around the bottom up to about 2" or so. I used a large nail which made it rather simple. Now, cut away the bottom to make a tube. Place this tube in your BBQ with the holes down. Fill it about half way with crumpled newspaper not too compressed. Fill the rest with charcoal. Now, light the paper and the air holes in the can will make the fire hotter than normal and your coals will ignite faster than you realize.
