How can I make iced Tea From scratch using loose tea?
I don't keep Tea Bags handy because loose tea makes a much better hot tea. I need to know the portions to make Iced Tea.
Mr pants, for hot tea I brew it in a clay teapot. First i put 1 teaspoon of tea per cup in the preheated pot. Then add the appropriate amount of boiling water. Allow it to steep for about 4 minutes. Pour through a Tea Strainer into your cup and add honey and lemon if you wish.
It depends on how you plan to ice the tea. There are three basic concepts:
1. Make hot, place in a container, and leave in the refrigerator for several hours. Since you're not watering down the tea any, you can use regular proportions.
2. Make hot, then pour over ice. I double the proportions since after adding enough ice to take hot tea down to the freezing point I have double the liquid in my glass or more.
3. Cold brew - place the leaves in a container and leave in the fridge for 2-6 hours. I tend to forget about the leaves with this method and end up with very strong tea, so I'm not sure about the proportions. Some people say double, some people say normal.
