1990 Menghai 250 g Brick ZunCha Tea Leaves - Vintage Pu-erh Teas
USD 150.00

This well preserved and dry stored brick is a classic shu (cooked) Pu-erh. It has the taste of Jujube and Ginseng Herbal taste. The aging was slower during these years, producing flavorful Pu-erh's that rival good sheng cakes. Really nice taste and recommended. The taste and smoothness of this shu brick show its age. The great deep Chinese Medicine flavor comes through and makes this brick special. Very clean looking and tasting tea that is sure to please the most discerning palate. Lasts for many infusions with a sweet and full aftertaste. Pu-erh teas are aged before they are consumed, unlike other teas which are meant to be consumed shortly after production. Pu-erh teas are at least 1-4 years old, but can also be aged for more than 50 years! Over this time, Pu-erh teas ferment, which leads to their earthy flavor, as opposed to the flavor of oolong or black teas, which comes from oxidation. Pu-erh teas are unique among tea varieties because they do not lose qualities after a year or two, but rather gain in value, and are classified by connoisseurs by year of production.

500g YunNan puer Mini cake
USD 58.00

Pu-erh tea is traditionally made with leaves from old wild tea trees of a variety known as 'broad leaf tea'(simplified ) or Camellia sinensis var.assamica, which is found in southwest China as well as the bordering tropical regions in Burma,Vietnam,Laos, and the very eastern parts of India. The shoots and young leaves from this varietal are often covered with fine hairs, with the pekoe ( two leaves and a bud) larger than other tea varietals. The leaves are also slightly different in chemical composition , which alter the taste and aroma of the brewed tea,as well as its desirability for aging. Due to the scarcity of old wild tea trees, pu-erh made using such trees blended from different tea mountains of Yunnan are highly valued. The history of pu-erh tea can be traced back to the Eastern Han Dynasty.

Our Dian Hong is grown in nonpolluting environment and be produced with great attention to detail. Its leaves are beautifully golden and tippy; when brewed, the infusion has a rich fragrance, amber color. On the palate this tea is slightly spicy with a hint of citrus. This very balanced tea will suit the tastes of seasoned black tea drinkers. Drink this tea with milk and sugar or savor it unaltered. Brewing Information: Hot tea brewing method: As with all top quality teas, scoop 2-4 teaspoons of tea into the teapot. Pour in boiling water that has been freshly drawn (previously boiled water has lost most if its oxygen and therefore tends to be flat tasting), steep for 2-4 minutes (to taste), stir (virtually all the leaves will sink), pour into your cup, add milk (do not use cream) and sugar to taste. When you are making a pot of tea - using loose tea of course - you will see the tea leaves uncurl and expand dramatically. This uncurling and expansion is called 'the agony of the leaf.'

Bana Denong Ripe Pu-erh Tea (organic) - 2 ounces loose tea
USD 10.00

Sometime during China's Tang Dynasty, about 1300 years ago, it was noticed that broad leaf teas transported from Yunnan Province (along what is known as the "Tea Horse Road") to China's then capital city, Chang'an, Tibet and other destinations, underwent a unique transformation during the long journeys. The taste of the brew from these tea leaves actually became smoother and more distinctive. This tea, known as Pu-erh tea, became highly sought-after by the Tang Court, the literati and the nobility. Pu-erh tea came to be known as the "King of Tea" for good reason. High quality Pu-erh is still in great demand by tea connoisseurs and is one of the few teas that, like wine, improves and becomes smoother over time. Pu-erh tea comes in two general types: Ripe Pu-erh is tea that has undergone an accelerated fermentation process while Raw Pu-erh has not and is/has been allowed to undergo natural fermentation over time. Bana Tea's Denong Ripe Pu-erh Tea is a 2006 vintage tea that was produced in Menghai, Xishuanbanna Prefecture in China's, Yunnan Province. This is a fermented tea that is produced from a blend of leaves from wild tea trees and small tea bushes. This tea won the bronze medal at the Second China Yunnan Pu-erh Tea International Fair of 2007. The brew is rusty-red in color and exhibits a smooth earthy date flavor with a sweet aftertaste that is comforting and pleasing to the palate. It is best consumed after a meal. This tea normally is manufactured in traditional 250 gram tea bricks. This beautifully-designed box contains 2 ounces of the tea that has been segmented into convenient ready-to-brew portions.

500g Yunnan Mini Fermented Puer Tea-Rose Taste
USD 38.00

Pu'erh is a large leaf tea variety or Dayeh, and is grown and picked throughout the year, unlike other teas that require a dormant season. Although dark Pu'erh tastes much like black tea, it is not black or oolong tea, but falls into a category of its own. Pu'erh is processed much like black tea with the exception of a couple steps. The tea is picked, processed and partially fired allowing the leaves to retain moisture. The slightly moist tea is then piled. The natural bacterium on the leaves creates a reaction similar to that of a compost pile. The tea is then aged, in special underground rooms or caves, adding to its unique character. One of the most significant distinctions of this tea is that it gets better over time. These aged teas are prized and can be found in vintages, like wine, some dating back 40 to 50 to 100 years. Pu'erh tea derives its name from the market town of Pu-er, where it was originally processed and sold, but it is grown on the Nuoshan Mountains. It is said that the unique taste of Puerh Tea was developed because it took weeks to transport the tea leaves by horseback to the town to be processed. During this transportation period the tea leaves would begin to ferment in the humidity and release a strong, fragrant aroma, which people found quite pleasant. A special technique of tea fermenting developed and Pu'er was thus created. The secret of making Puerh tea has been closely guarded in China for centuries. The tea leaves are collected from growers of a special broad-leaf tea tree, which are said to be related to ancient prehistoric tea trees. The leaves go through two types of fermentation, which gives this tea its unique characteristics; a mild, but distinctively earthy flavour. Puerh teas are much like fine wines, which become smoother and more balanced with age. Puerh teas are much lower in tannins than other teas due to the special processing method which it undergoes.
